For 20 years, AT&T and the Corona Del Mar Community Chucrch have had a lease that placed a hidden cell tower in the church’s steeple. This tower was installed inside the steeple two decades ago but since then has been updated to the latest 5G technology; meaning it emits much higher levels of electromagnetic frequencies than it once did as a 2G tower 20 years ago. 

Scientist reviewed studies show that 5G can…

 “...increase cancer risk, cellular stress, increase in harmful free radicals, genetic damages, structural and functional changes of the reproductive system, learning and memory deficits, neurological disorders, and negative impacts on general well-being in humans.”

This is alarming news for our community but especially for our children that attend Sea Star Village preschool located directly inside the church. The cell tower not only reduces property value in the area, but it also is incredibly concerning for the health of the church staff and it’s congregation. 

The church is currently provided a $35000 incentive (that with go up to a $60,000 annual lease with the renewal). We understand this can provide great value to their community efforts. However, the 5G tower provides even greater damage to the people of Corona Del Mar and our children. To help create a more mutually beneficial situation, we are sharing our concerns by signing this petition. 

We are desperately seeking the support of all residents in the form of signatures- and if you have time to attend- there will be a meeting taking place at the Church on Heliotrope on Sunday, October 9th at 11am. This is a critical time to educate the congregation and prevent AT&T from renewing the lease for another 20 years. It’s taken two decades for the lease to be up and this is a unique opportunity.

The Trustees have voted to renew the lease, but luckily the council overruled with an 8-4 vote. It’s now up to the congregation (the members of the church) to become educated about the harmful impact of 5G EMF towers.

Now is the time to act and prevent this lease from harming the health of our community as once it is renewed it will be much harder (if at all possible) to legally overturn!
