Stop Animal Hoarding Posed as Rescue in Nevada

The Issue

More than 200 animals were recently rescued from a property in Grass Valley, Nevada County after authorities found them sick, starving, and living among dead animals. Sheep, goats, pigs, horses, dogs, and other animals were crammed together without adequate care. Many were emaciated. Some were already dead. Others did not survive even after rescue.

The person arrested in this case claimed he was in the process of starting an animal rescue.

Animal lovers know the truth. Real rescues save lives. They do not allow animals to suffer, starve, or die.

This case exposes a dangerous gap in oversight. In Nevada, individuals can claim to be running a rescue and accumulate large numbers of animals without meaningful inspections, registration, or accountability until conditions become catastrophic. By the time authorities step in, animals have already endured extreme suffering.

We need stronger protections before it reaches that point.

We are calling on Nevada lawmakers, county officials, and animal control agencies to strengthen oversight of anyone claiming to operate an animal rescue or sanctuary. This includes clear registration requirements, routine inspections, enforceable animal limits, and rapid intervention when conditions decline.

This is not about punishing legitimate rescues. It is about protecting animals from hoarding situations that hide behind good intentions or good words.

The animals rescued in Grass Valley deserved care, safety, and dignity. Many never got that chance.

Please sign this petition to help ensure that no one in Nevada can collect animals under the name of rescue without the responsibility to properly care for them. Animals deserve protection before suffering begins, not after it is too late.
