Stop Animal Cruelty and Unjust Actions at BITS-Pilani Campus
The Issue
Introduction: I am Sameer, a dedicated animal caretaker and a part of Pilani For Animals, A Group doing 30 years of community changing work in the Pilani, Rajasthan region. I am deeply concerned about recent developments that have left me and some of the animals I care for in a state of uncertainty and distress. I am launching this petition to seek justice for the animals and to demand an end to unjust actions at the BET and BITS Campus in Pilani.
Petition:
To:
Maj. Gen. S. S. Nair, AVSM (Retd.),
Director & Policymaker of BET Campus, Pilani
The S.H.O,
Pilani Police Station.
Respected Mr. Ashok Gelhlot Ji
Chief Minister, Rajasthan
We, the undersigned, call upon you to address the following issues urgently and transparently:
1. Halt the Cease and Desist Order:
We urge the immediate revocation of the verbal order issued to halt the vital duties of dedicated animal caretakers in the Pilani region. The welfare of over 150 dogs, numerous cats, bovines, and cattle in the small village of Pilani is at risk without their care. These caretakers play a crucial role in vaccinating, spaying/neutering, administering medicines, and providing essential care to these animals. It is on evidence that you have been using Unjust Force from your Security Guards to disallow access to Vets and Caretakers on the B.E.T Grounds.
2. Uphold the Indian Constitution and Animal Welfare Laws:
We demand the strict adherence to Article 51A(g) of the Indian Constitution, which imposes a fundamental duty on every citizen to have compassion for living creatures. Furthermore, the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, should be upheld to protect animals from harm and cruelty. The guilty individuals should be Fired From Employment under Birla Education Trust and be subjected to legal actions.
3. End Harassment and Threats:
We strongly condemn the reported threats made by security personnel against families, individuals, and NGOs involved in animal welfare duties. Under the Director, The implementation of wooden sticks to harm animals is inhumane and unacceptable and should be punished via Incarceration to jail. Also, any plans to relocate the neutered dogs using illegal methods must cease immediately.
We also demand that the CCTV Footage for 04-09-2023 to 06-09-2023 be shared with the Police authorities to check any illegal activities by the security staff under the command of S. S. Nair.
4. Transparent Investigation and Legal Action:
We demand a thorough investigation into the source of the office order and urge the immediate termination of employees involved in promoting animal cruelty tactics within the Birla Education Trust Committee. Furthermore, we request the release of an official order with Birla Education Trust Letterhead by September 6th, 2023, to address this unjust order legally, politically and publicly.
5. Transparency and Accountability:
We call for transparency regarding the actions taken by the BET Organization to address animal-human conflicts, including the dates of the last Animal Birth Control (ABC) camp and the last vaccination drive conducted by the Organization. We also seek information about any awareness programs conducted in BET schools regarding animal welfare.
Conclusion:
We believe that justice must be served for the innocent animals and dedicated caretakers in Pilani. We urge the policymaker, S. S. Nair and the BET Organization to act swiftly and responsibly to address these concerns, ensuring the welfare and well-being of all living creatures in the region.
