For as long as anyone can remember, STL’s Grade 12 prom has taken place after graduation. That timing has always been part of what makes it so special:

It comes after exams, so we can actually relax and enjoy ourselves without schoolwork hanging over us.
The weather is better later in June, which makes the night more enjoyable.
Most importantly, it feels like a true farewell—the last time our grade gets to celebrate together, along with the long-standing traditions of the non-school-affiliated prom cotty and prom-after.

This year, the school wants to move prom up to May 29. We understand that the change is being explained as a response to many possible reasons, including the congestion of events during that period of time. Having prom before exams takes away what has always made the event meaningful—instead of being a celebration and a send-off, it becomes just another stressful date on the calendar.

We’re asking STL to keep prom where it belongs: after graduation, the way it’s always been.
