Popular fantasy sagas are being adapted for television like Game of Thrones and The Wheel of Time which helps push the genre more and more into the mainstream. I'm a fan of those novels and I'm really looking forward to watching the Wheel of Time but I know I'm not alone in my disappointment that there seems to be no sign that the incredible Malazan: Book of the Fallen series will ever hit the screen. 

I first read Malazan after reading through what was released of the Game of Thrones series at the time and what appealed to me at first was simply that the main series by Erikson had an ending. As I read through the Book of the Fallen its complexity and depth made me feel as if Game of Thrones was written for young adults and that Malazan would make a much, much better TV series if done right.

The main book series as well as the stand alone novels are full of so many interesting and unique characters that you will fall in love with, or love to hate. It is mature and loaded with complex intrigue, fast paced action, slow burning suspense and sometimes even a bit of humor. It takes the reader on an emotional ride through every chapter. The world has amazing elements of high fantasy as well as diverse races and societies that to truly capture in a television series should be animated and ideally overseen by Erikson himself.

While the main series has a conclusion, the vast world that Erikson and Esslemont created together provides endless possibilities for new material long after the existing stories are told.

Give fantasy fans everywhere what they want, whether they know it or not!
