Everyone knows someone whose favorite animal is extremely obscure. You know, something you’ve never heard of? I for one am the yellow bellied marmot’s greatest fan. (Never heard of it, right?) :) One of my friends loves the pangolin. Another loves the pika. You should get the idea by now. Obscure animal lovers need a day to connect with one another. Obscure animals need a day to feel appreciated. We want to celebrate their differences, and let people know they exist, right? This is why I believe that we should make National Obscure Animals Day a real thing!

Many obscure animals are endangered. This is extremely sad to me. Did you know that pangolins are the most trafficked mammals in the world? (In case you didn’t know, pangolins are adorable scaled mammals that resemble armadillos). Having National Obscure Animals Day could bring people’s attention to this issue and, in the long run, save this species, as well as many others.

If you are an obscure animal lover, I’m sure you’ve been in that situation where someone asks you your favorite animal, you answer, and they look at you like you are insane. We’ve all been there! National Obscure Animals Day could help all of us obscure animal lovers connect with each other. Who knows, maybe you’ll find someone who has the same favorite animal as you!
