Suzanne Marie Bonamici is an American lawyer and prominent Democratic politician serving as the U.S. Representative for Oregon's 1st congressional district. She was first elected to this position in a 2012 special election. Her district encompasses much of Portland west of the Willamette River, as well as all of Columbia, Clatsop, and Washington counties. Bonamici has a rich political career, having served as a member of the Oregon House of Representatives from 2007 to 2008 and as a State Senator from 2008 to 2011. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Journalism and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Oregon. Before her political career, she worked as a Consumer Protection Attorney at the Federal Trade Commission and owned a small business.
