Ban Apartments from Charging for Visitor Parking

Ban Apartments from Charging for Visitor Parking

The Issue

The Sterling Karamar Management services responsible for multiple buildings across London, Ontario has retained the services of Target Park Inc. in order to enforce parking tickets for visitors of building residents staying longer than half an hour.

When cities approve plans for new buildings, staff looks closely at the number of parking spaces to make sure there are enough for tenants and their guests. The city doesn't intend for the spots to be monetized.

Here are just a couple of the reasons why this practice should be banned:

1. Many of the residents living in the buildings managed by Sterling Karamar are elderly, and should any of them require care or services from a third party, these residents should not have to pay additional fees in order to ensure they get sufficient care or help.

2. 500 Proudfoot Lane as well as several of the surrounding buildings managed by Sterling Karamar are not in a high demand area such as Downtown London that would require paid parking. The area is not one to be “taken advantage of” as there are copious amounts of free parking surrounding the area’s restaurants, and stores.

I urge the City of London to take action against this practice and ban the implementation of visitor parking fees in apartment complexes.
