The President of the United States just said he’d arrest the Governor of California. That’s not law and order. That’s authoritarianism.

After days of mass ICE raids and the controversial deployment of National Guard troops to Los Angeles, Governor Gavin Newsom and Mayor Karen Bass stood up for Californians. They defended our immigrant communities, condemned the unlawful use of military force on civilians, and supported peaceful protests.

In response, Trump’s “border czar” Tom Homan threatened to arrest them. Then, on June 9, Trump said outright that he supported arresting Newsom, saying “I would do it… I think it would be a great thing.” He called the governor “grossly incompetent” and openly encouraged federal agents to take action.

Newsom responded with disbelief:

“This is a day I hoped I would never see in America.”
“This is a line we cannot cross as a nation.”

This is about more than a political feud. This is about the President of the United States threatening to jail an elected official for doing his job — protecting people.

It’s an outrageous and dangerous escalation. Arresting leaders who challenge federal overreach would shred the Constitution, weaponize immigration enforcement, and send a chilling message to every mayor, governor, or citizen who dares to speak up.

We must not stay silent.
