The Issue

We stand with Sarah Inama, a teacher at Lewis and Clark Middle School, who is being asked to remove her signs promoting inclusivity. The signs, which read "Everyone is welcome here" and "In this room, everyone is welcome, important, accepted, respected, encouraged, valued," have been in her classroom for four years, reminding students that they are valued regardless of their background.

The West Ada School District claims the signs create division, but we believe they simply convey universal messages of acceptance. The signs are not political or ideological—they are about making every student feel safe and respected.

Sarah's decision to keep these signs up reflects her commitment to creating a safe space for her students. We support her right to maintain a welcoming classroom environment and urge the district to reconsider its stance.

Let us make it clear: creating a welcoming environment is not a partisan issue—it is a necessary condition for students to feel safe, seen, and supported. We call on the West Ada School District to respect Sarah Inama's right to promote inclusivity and to keep the signs that foster a positive and inclusive learning atmosphere.
