The Issue

Preserve a Symbol of Freedom, Culture, and Community Pride

The Juneteenth Heritage Crosswalk on Springwood Avenue is more than a painted intersection. It is a visible reminder of freedom, resilience, and the rich history of Black residents who helped shape Asbury Park.

Springwood Avenue stands as one of the most historically significant corridors in our city. By making this crosswalk permanent, Asbury Park can honor that history while creating a lasting symbol of unity, education, and cultural pride for future generations.

We respectfully call on the Mayor, City Council, and City Administration to:

Designate the Springwood Avenue Juneteenth Heritage Crosswalk as a permanent installation.
Include maintenance and restoration of the crosswalk in future city planning and budgeting.
Recognize the crosswalk as a cultural and historical landmark.
Explore partnerships and sponsorships to support preservation and educational programming.
Communities across the nation have embraced public art and cultural landmarks that celebrate their history. Asbury Park should do the same.

By signing this petition, you are supporting the preservation of a meaningful symbol that reflects the heritage, contributions, and legacy of our community.

Sign today and help make the Springwood Avenue Juneteenth Heritage Crosswalk permanent.
