Spirit Airlines: Guarantee kids sit with their parents—no more random seat assignments

The Issue

Flying with young kids is hard enough. But Spirit Airlines makes it harder by refusing to guarantee that children are seated with their parents—unless you pay extra.

Spirit’s policy says if you don’t pre-purchase a seat, you’ll be randomly assigned one at check-in—even if you’re traveling with a child under 13.

Gate agents and flight attendants “will try” to seat families together, but there are no guarantees.

That’s not good enough.

As a parent, I find it unacceptable that any airline would leave it to chance whether my child—who may be anxious, shy, or too young to speak for themselves—ends up next to me on a flight.

This is not just a customer service issue—it’s a child safety issue.

We’re calling on Spirit Airlines to adopt a real family seating policy that automatically assigns all children under 13 a seat next to their parent or guardian

Applies regardless of whether a seat was paid for in advance
Ends the stress, risk, and uncertainty for families flying on a budget!

Every family deserves to travel with dignity—and no parent should have to beg to sit beside their child. This should be standard, not an upsell.
