When humankind first sets foot on another planet, it will be a momentous occasion. Truly, it will be the greatest accomplishment of all time and it will be one of the most impactful global accomplishments that has ever happened or ever will happen.

I am proposing that to celebrate and mark this incredible achievement and moment in human history, we begin a new era. At that point, we will no longer be in the C.E. (Common Era), humankind will have entered the era of interplanetary travel or, as I would like to call it, I.P.E. (InterPlanetary Era).

At the very least, retiring the term C.E. to begin using the term I.P.E. is a way to show that we as a species, we as a planet, understand the gravity and sheer awesomeness of this amazing achievement.

In a world where the good is often outshined by the bad or tragic, I believe that this small gesture to mark an incredible moment, will help bring us all a little closer globally, even if at that moment, we're on two different globes.
