South Carolina phone ban

The Issue

There have been so many memories which could and should have been preserved on our phones that were banned simply because adults fail to see the benefit and think it harms the student. The thing is, the law does more harm than good because more students are getting sent out of class due to phones being outlawed. If adults truthfully want what's best for the students, they should alter the law so students can have their phone out when the student is done with their work. That way students would have more motivation to get their work done. I know the counter argument to that is that students would rush to get their work done so they can get on their phones but one can't argue that because there's always going to be a reason students want to get their work done faster. Another reason the law needs to be altered is because the law goes against our Preamble, which is the foundation for our great country. The law does not promote the general welfare of our country because our phones being put up means  if a school shooting happens our safety is being jeopardized because we can't reach out for help. Based on the Constitution, the law is really violating our 8th amendment because every single peer of mine has agreed with me that having our phones put up is a cruel and unusual punishment. It's cruel because it puts every single student in a state of fear that if a shooting happens, we cannot reach out to the outside world. I hate to be morbid, but I really need adults to put themselves in our shoes, the thought that one day we could get shot in school and die laying in our own blood and not getting to tell our family we love them. Truthfully, how can any adult make a law when every single one of them has been out of school for a long time. Many adults today have not even experienced a lockdown drill. We have them multiple times per year. Adults simply can't understand the mindset us students have.
