The FW de Klerk Foundation calls on all South Africans to sign the “South Africa First!” petition to lobby for and create awareness of the following:

• Statesmanship: Establish a government of constitutional unity or coalition government that will put South Africa first.
• Constitutional democracy: Protect our Constitution and Bill of Rights by forming a new government consisting of political parties loyal to it and committed to lasting freedom, peace, progress and prosperity for all South Africans.

Key priorities of such a government of national unity or coalition government:

1. Economic growth: Create a conducive environment for local and foreign direct investment and increase tax revenue to overcome the triple threat of poverty, unemployment and inequality.
2. ⁠⁠Infrastructure development: Adopt a zero-tolerance approach towards bad governance and management in state-owned enterprises and government departments and scale up infrastructure and housing development projects by leveraging private sector expertise and technologies.
3. Youth employment: Prioritise employment opportunities for the youth in all economic sectors and scale up learnerships, tax incentives, small business opportunities, basic employment grants, expanded public works programme, on-the-job technical training, etc.
4. Food production: Ensure access to affordable, healthy and available food and help farmers to mitigate the many risks they face.
5. Law and order: Stamp out crime and adopt a zero-tolerance approach to corruption, gangsterism, drug-trafficking, gender-based violence, political violence, extortion and identify hotspots most affected by it.
6. Competent state: Build a professional, accountable and responsive public service appointed on merit and not on racial classification or political allegiance committed to provide the best possible public services to the South African public.
7. Nation-building: Focus on unity to foster social cohesion amongst South Africans and build a shared national identity based on national pride and a culture of reverence for human rights, non-racialism, non-sexism, human dignity, equality, freedom, empathy, respect and honesty.
