Fix Android 4.4 (Kit Kat)

Fix Android 4.4 (Kit Kat)
The Issue
With Google's recent release of Android 4.4, codenamed "Kit Kat", they've disabled the use of sdcards by third party apps. This was done without any warning to the community, not that it would have mattered; there's simply no workaround.
If you had an app that wrote to an sdcard it is now broken. File browsers, advanced camera apps, editors, photo management tools, media managment tools, and many, many more. If the app might write to an sdcard chances are it doesn't work properly anymore.
This has adversely affected thousands of developers and millions of users. Disabling a capability that users were promised and have become accustomed to is a betrayal and a violation of warranty. When we buy a device we expect it to function fully. If we wanted someone else to dictate our use cases we could have bought an Apple product.
Developers have been trying to get Google to reverse this policy for months. Despite the loss of many of their lead Android developers over recent policies Google is ignoring the community and standing by their policy of capability removal. Let them know that you want your devices to function as promised.
I'm the developer of Rawdroid, a photo management tool for professional cameras. I started this petition because this Android update has broken thousands of my user's devices and Google's response is effectively, "Too bad, most users won't notice". If this starts to get media attention Google will have to awknowledge the community.
Update: Recent changes in 5.0 such as ACTION_OPEN_DOCUMENT_TREE are touted to fix this issue (but only for 5.0). After researching implementing them in my own app they are entirely inadequate in any advanced use case. As far as I'm concerned 5.0 remains broken. I'm bewildered how they didn't simply have a rights dialog beyond the store one if that's what they felt necessary.
