Due to the current global pandemic, the online Fall 2020 term at SFU has been very challenging for many students. Since these challenges and difficulties have been amplified since the Spring 2020 session, it would only make sense to reinstate the same policies to help alleviate student stress and anxieties. Students are feeling as though the workload has increased since in-person instruction. Keeping this in mind, SFU has also decided to increase tuition costs, forcing many to work while still studying for a full course term. We are petitioning to Simon Fraser University to make the "pass/fail" option be available this Fall 2020 semester. Many students' grades will take a dramatic hit and this may affect their future educational endeavours because of the change in learning. Online classes are hard enough, and to change the method of learning while not adjusting the grading scale is simply unfair. We should be given the option to take classes "pass/fail", at least until in-person classes can resume and the traditional methods of learning are restored.
