Alannah & Madeline Foundation
4 Dec 2016
The Alannah & Madeline Foundation welcomed reports over the weekend that the NSW Premier will support classifying the seven-shot Adler as a Category D firearm.
This is a huge win for our campaign and no doubt your emails and Tweets helped convince Mike Baird to do the right thing.
But we need to keep up the pressure ahead of Friday’s Council of Australian Government’s (COAG) meeting in Canberra.
Some states and territories haven’t yet revealed where they stand on the Adler, and we need all Premiers and Chief Ministers to agree.
We also want to make sure there aren’t any back room deals which see the restrictions that apply to Category D firearms watered down.
Already there has been a backlash at the Federal level with several Nationals MPs attacking those that support a Category D classification.
We don’t want to see community safety used as a political play thing and call for leadership from the Prime Minister down to ensure our gun laws are kept strong.
Australia’s gun laws must not be watered down in any way, shape or form to appease the vocal gun lobby.
We know the majority of Australians want to keep our gun laws strong and we hope all Premiers and Chief Ministers live up to that expectation at the COAG meeting on Friday.
Join the Alannah & Madeline Foundation in calling for leadership at COAG this week in Canberra by posting a Tweet and including your Premier or Chief Minister, and the Prime Minister.
A list of their handles are below.
