Actualización de la peticiónKeep Australia safe from gun violenceIn the Senate overnight

Overnight there was a move to disallow the Government’s ban on the importation of the Adler A110 shotgun by Senator Leyonhjelm. Not a single National Party Senator voted to support the Government’s own ban on the Adler shotgun. If it was successful we would have seen thousands of these potentially deadly weapons flood into Australia. Nationals senators Bridget McKenzie and John Williams voted with Senator David Leyonhjelm and One Nation to lift the ban on the Adler shotgun. Government Ministers Senators Nash, Scullion and Canavan as well as Senator Barry O’Sullivan abstained from the vote altogether. We need to send a clear message to the Prime Minister ahead of his meeting on gun control with Premiers and Chief Ministers in Canberra on December 9. If you want to keep our gun laws strong, help us reach 60,000 signatures on our petition. Just share on Facebook and Twitter to help us reach our goal. The majority of Australians want to keep our gun laws strong and keep our children safe from gun violence. We don’t want to become the US where there are more guns than people and mass shootings are commonplace. Join the Alannah & Madeline Foundation in calling for leadership at the next Council of Australian Governments (COAG) meeting in Canberra. The laws Prime Minister John Howard and Deputy Prime Minister Tim Fischer fought so hard for after the tragedy of Port Arthur have kept Australia safer. Now is not the time to take a backwards step.
