The Alannah & Madeline Foundation has been working closely with Andrew Leigh and John Alexander and we congratulate them both for their leadership on this issue. Since Port Arthur, strong gun control has been an issue our politicians could agree on. It is wonderful to see the current Member for Bennelong, John Alexander honour Mr Howard’s legacy in this way. And Andrew Leigh has been such a strong advocate for such a long period of time, even Mr Howard quotes his research in the New York Times. Our country’s response to Port Arthur, lead by John Howard and Tim Fischer, has been something our community has been rightly proud of. Around 80% of Australians want to keep our gun laws strong, and this group will be a powerful voice for that majority view. Our gun laws have kept us safer for almost two decades but now is no time to be complacent. Thank you for your ongoing support.
