I am a businees in Midsomer Norton, 800ft above sea level on the Mendips in Somerset.
I make the case that both our towns will be deeply affected by the emissions based parking charges imposed on our towns by BANES. These charges are not just a financial burden on people; they are an act of discrimination against some people, those less fortunate among us. Our community is united in opposition to these fees, and we all say NO at the same time.
In the age of equality how can these charges be fair ?.

MSN and Radstock have a long historical fellowship and have worked in unity to support each other for over 500 years.
Midsomer Norton and Radstock are not just towns; it's our home as is . It's where we live, work, and play. The imposition of parking charges has disrupted this harmony and placed unnecessary stress and strain on local businesses and residents alike.
Bath and North East Somerset Council (BANES), we urge you to think about this with open eyes and not to act out your decision. We really understand the need for revenue generation but believe there must be a much fairer ways that do not disproportionately affect those with lower incomes In the age of equality.
According to data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS), areas with similar demographics as ours have seen significant drops in high street footfall due to parking charges (ONS, 2019) and since the pandemic and cost of living crisis. All of his impacts local businesses negatively and does and has lead to job losses – all of this is another blow for the local economy and those already struggling financially.
We implore BANES council - keep your hands off our towns ! STOP NOW these unjust parking fees that threaten our community spirit and economic stability. It's time for change - it's time for fairness!
Its time we took our towns back.
Please sign this petition today if you believe in justice, unity, and preserving the character of Midsomer Norton and our unique family ties and close community and most of all our high streets land businesses and all of our visitors.

Councillor Shaun Hughes, an independent councillor for Midsomer Norton for Bath and North East Somerset Council said: "This is typical of a very Bath-centric council. They have no understanding of what this will do to our high street economy.
"The reality is that both Bath and Keynsham have had millions of pounds spent to improve their footfall. By comparison we've had nothing in Midsomer Norton.
"We live in an area of high car-dependency because we are semi-rural. Bus services have been cut dramatically."
Season tickets
Councillor Manda Rigby, cabinet member for Transport, said: "Our aim is to improve air quality, reduce congestion and encourage other ways to travel.
"Introducing charging in Midsomer Norton and Radstock would make it easier for shoppers to find parking by encouraging turnover of spaces, and the additional revenue would support regeneration schemes designed to increase footfall and support local trade.
"Where our proposals retain long stay parking, including in Midsomer Norton, we will provide season tickets so that motorists who regularly park for long periods can continue to do so for a lower cost compared to those paying each day.
"We will shortly be consulting with residents on the wider roll out of proposed emission-based charges across Bath and North East Somerset.”
