Shut Down Pets at Play in Southport

The issue

I care deeply about the welfare of these puppies because they are innocent, voiceless beings who deserve love, safety, and proper care — not to be treated as products for profit. Too often, pet stores source animals from puppy mills where the conditions are horrific: overcrowded cages, lack of medical attention, unsanitary environments, and heartbreaking neglect.

One such troubling situation that demands our attention is at Pets at Play located in Southport, Queensland. This store has reportedly left puppies unattended overnight, a practice that endangers their wellbeing significantly. The puppies are reportedly left untended 24/7 as the shop front faces away from the staff, essentially putting the puppies at risk of distress, injury, or worse.

This situation not only poses a threat to the puppies' safety and health but also symbolizes a larger problem of selling dogs in pet shops. Selling live animals in such environments often prioritizes profits over the welfare of these sentient beings, who deserve much better.

We, as part of the Southport community, have the power and responsibility to advocate for change to protect these animals. Shutting down this particular store or at least stopping the sale of puppies is a crucial step in ensuring that these puppies are no longer treated as mere commodities.

Statistics reveal that roughly 90% of puppies in pet stores come from puppy mills—a form of large-scale dog breeding operations where profit takes precedence over animal welfare. Removing the demand and closing the market for these establishments directly impacts the puppy mills that supply them.

Please join me in taking action to demand Pets at Play cease its unethical practices, to offer a safer, more compassionate world for these puppies. Sign this petition to hold the store accountable and stand against the commercialization of these innocent lives.
