The Issue

Jungle Reef made their way to Colorado Springs in March 2026 as a self proclaimed "touch aquarium". However, it became increasingly clear that the establishment is failing its animals and employees. The tanks housing these precious creatures are neither appropriately sized nor properly temperature controlled, leading to stressful and unhealthy conditions for the animals. Imagine the suffering of a fish that swims miles a day now confined to a space barely allowing for movement, or a reptile languishing in a tank far too cold to support its life. This is both a tragedy and a disgrace.

Additionally, the treatment of the staff at Jungle Reef is equally disheartening. An employee was recently bitten by a snake, a risk inherent in working with these animals, only to be dismissed right before they could claim workers' compensation. This act of firing staff rather than providing due support after an unfortunate incident is not just morally wrong but highlights systemic issues within the operational management of Jungle Reef.

It's pertinent to address the inadequate infrastructure that poses as much threat to the guests and employees as it does to the animals. Leaking tanks are ticking time bombs that could lead to catastrophic structural failures. A single breach could harm not just the visiting families but also lead to an ecological disaster that could endanger lives.

Given these dire conditions, it's critical that Jungle Reef be shut down for the safety and well-being of all parties involved. The lives of defenseless animals cannot be gambled for the sake of business negligence. Furthermore, businesses must be held accountable to ensure proper ethical considerations for both employees and the creatures they house.

Sign this petition to stand against the unethical treatment at Jungle Reef and ensure a better future for everyone involved. Your support is crucial to make a significant difference and to push for safeguarding animal rights and workers' welfare in Colorado Springs. Together, we can make the change that is desperately needed.
