Shorten daylight savings time in NSW

Shorten daylight savings time in NSW
The issue
To: The NSW Government and Premier of New South Wales
We, the undersigned, call on the NSW Government to shorten the daylight saving period.
Currently, daylight saving in NSW runs for six months, from the first Sunday in October to the first Sunday in April. This extended period disrupts sleep patterns, affects daily routines, and is unnecessary for much of the year.
We propose that daylight saving be reduced to three months, from December to February, to better align with the peak of summer while minimizing disruption to work schedules, school routines, and health.
Reasons for Change:
✅ Too Long: Half the year on daylight saving is excessive, especially when sunrise is too late by the end.
✅ Disrupts Sleep & Health: Studies show changing clocks affects sleep, productivity, and well-being.
✅ Not Necessary for Modern Life: The original reasons for daylight saving (energy savings, farming, etc.) are outdated.
✅ More Consistency Across States: Reducing daylight saving would better align NSW with states like Queensland, which doesn’t use it at all.
We urge the NSW Government to review the current daylight saving schedule and shorten it to a more reasonable timeframe (December–February).
If you’ve struggled with the effects of daylight saving—whether it’s messing with your sleep, work, or daily routine—sign and share this petition. Let’s push for a change that actually makes sense for modern life.
