Our democracy within local government is failing us in Lismore, NSW, 2480. Those seeking to run are facing extreme harassment including defamation, threats and attacks to their homes and physical safety, threats to their work and so much more. It's an extreme situation perpetuated by a few vexatious members of our community. It's caused members of our council staff and councillors to step down and provided deterrent (including direct threats against running - saying people will be "destroyed" for example)against good people running. 

It is our democratic right as a community for anyone who feels they're a good candidate, to run. However this is not the situation within the Lismore LGA. There appears to be involvement of organisations and people which do not seek to serve our community. Some council staff have been told outside influences "own the council" and that the Council "answers to them". 

Our community is facing an extreme situation and we're calling collectively for it to be formally investigated so democratic balance can be restored and our community can thrive and not be subject to toxic, inappropriate influence.
