Set a Maximum Age Limit for U.S. Presidents

Set a Maximum Age Limit for U.S. Presidents
The Issue
We believe it’s time to set a maximum age for presidential candidates—because the future belongs to the generations who will have to live in it.
Right now, there are age limits for drinking, driving, and running for office—but no upper age limit for leading the country. That means Americans could end up with leaders making decisions about climate policy, technology, reproductive rights, and the economy who may not live long enough to experience the long-term consequences of those choices.
This isn’t about disrespecting elders—it’s about representation. Young people face unique challenges and opportunities in today’s world, yet their voices are underrepresented at the highest levels of government. The average age of U.S. presidents has gone up over time, and with it, a growing disconnect from younger generations' lived realities.
We propose setting an upper age limit — such as 65 or 70 — for presidential candidates. This would still allow for experienced and seasoned leaders while ensuring that those at the top better reflect the future they're helping to shape.
Our democracy works best when it includes all voices—but it shouldn't be dominated by one generation forever. Sign this petition if you agree it’s time for fair representation across generations in the White House.
