Secretary of State for Work & Pensions to attend settlement talks re ALL #50sWomen!
The Issue
The Rt Hon Sir George Howarth MP wrote to Rt Hon Mel Stride MP on 17 April to invite him to settlement talks on behalf of ALL 1950s born women.
Sir George's letter is supported by 6 party leaders and a growing number of cross-party Parliamentarians.
EDMs 2296, 906, 430 & 1040 refer to the issues of discrimination against 50s Women & maladministration in the implementation of State Pension Age changes.
By reason of signing and ratifying CEDAW (and the Optional Protocol) the government is obliged to provide full restitution to all 1950s women.
This casts upon the UK Govt responsibility under both domestic and international law, which cannot be denied or avoided, nor can "affordability" be used as an excuse not to settle the matter fully with regard to the legal and moral obligations to 50s Women
The avenue of Alternative Dispute Resolution settlement talks provides the opportunity to consider BOTH Direct Discrimination AND Maladministration and to honour CEDAW obligations and responsibilities vis a vis 50s Women, as described in Sir George Howarth's letter (see tweet below for full text)
"It is, with respect, incumbent upon Govt and you as Secretary of State for Work & Pensions fairly to accept responsibility for the detriment 1950s Women have suffered in the way in which the raising of State Pension Age for women has been brought about" Rt Hon Sir George Howarth MP

We urge the Minister responsible to come to the table to resolve this long outstanding matter.
