Petition to Hartlepool Borough Council: Turn On the Seaton Carew Splash Park for May Half Term and Subsequent Weekends

We, the undersigned, call on Hartlepool Borough Council to ensure that the Seaton Carew splash park is switched on and operating throughout the May half term and on subsequent weekends during the warmer months.

For years, local families have asked the same question: why is the splash park not open during periods of good weather and at times when families most want to use it?

In 2022, residents were told that a public consultation had informed this decision. However, many local people have never been able to locate the results of that consultation or see evidence of how local views shaped the current arrangements.

Seaton Carew is a family destination and the splash park is a valued community facility. School holidays and weekends are when local children and visiting families are most likely to use it. A public facility designed for recreation should be available during those times.

We are asking Hartlepool Borough Council to:

*Turn on the Seaton Carew splash park for the full May half term each year.
*Keep the splash park operating on subsequent weekends during the warmer season.
*Publish the findings of the 2021/2022 consultation in the interests of transparency.
*Review future operating dates in consultation with Seaton Carew residents and local families.

This petition is about making better use of an existing community asset, supporting local families, and ensuring decisions reflect the views of the people who actually use Seaton Carew.

It is time for children and families in Seaton Carew to be able to enjoy the splash park during May half term and the weekends that follow - when the community wants and expects it to be open.
