Hi, I’m Faiths mum. I’m struggling to get my daughter into a local nursery. Faith was born at 24 weeks and fought a long battle to be here. She is deaf and has autism, although no one will diagnose her with autism as she is only three and a half years of age. She is expected to travel 2 hours daily to get to a nursery that has resources to deal with deafness and autism. 

My town has 6 nursery’s that suits can think of and not one of them has a teacher that can sign, can you believe this? The closest nursery to us is an hours drive away. I am at breaking point trying to get a solution. Why should my daughter be discriminated because she has disabilities. No one seems to be listening to her needs. 

Faith is a very intelligent little girl and she is missing out on the start of her education because of funding, I think? What is the reason for this? I’m unsure. 

I would like the Scottish government to look at their policies on this and come up with a solution. These kids don’t have a voice and I want to advocate for them. All kids deserve to be educated and included. Please make it mandatory to have BSL signing in at least 1 local nursery. Thank you, angry mom �
