I would like to change the laws around breaking Intervention orders and the court ordered sentencing around this. I believe in South Australia and Australia these criminals get chance after chance to break the orders and only get a “slap” on the wrist as punishment. This is why so many women are being murdered by a domestic partner as the punishment does not fit the crime and they are back on the street ready to break the order again! No rehabilitation, no time for the victim to seek help and back to do damage to families. 

If children watch their father or mother being abused they can grow up to think this behaviour is ok and the cycle will never end. If a child’s parent Is being abused and they are seeing then they too are being abused. This needs to STOP!!!! 

1st offence of breaking the order by assault, threat, stalking, harassment- mandatory 5 months (this gives the victim time to seek help, relocate and find strength to not be manipulated to drop charges and accept them back in the home.

2nd offence - Mandatory 12months plus complete a repeat offender program and domestic violence course to be released. 

3rd offence - 2 years ( because if they haven’t learned by now they never will)! 

1) Data released by South Australia Police shows there was 440 more domestic assaults between last March and August.

2) Last year South Australia’s Women’s Legal Service had to turn away 450 calls from women during the month of May. 

STOP putting the problem onto families and services and put them in jail where they belong - no more free ride to harm partners and children!
