We want to create a much-needed skatepark in the town of Scituate, RI.  Skating is a fun, challenging sport that appeals to kids and adults, builds community, requires practice and concentration, and offers great exercise to people who enjoy challenging themselves outside of traditional team sports.

We've been skating for years but struggle to find a good, safe place to practice.  We've built our own ramps and rails, and skated on the streets, sidewalks and tennis courts in town, trying to find smooth, gravel-free and traffic-free areas to build our skills.  But skating these areas causes problems because they are meant for cars or pedestrians or other sports. As with all sports, the right equipment and the right location makes all the difference.

There is a large, unused grassy field and beach volley ball court in the recreation area across from Scituate Elementary School that would be the perfect location for an accessible and safe skatepark.  We have spoken with the Scituate Recreation Director who supports the development of a skatepark.

Now we need YOU - Scituate Residents - to sign this petition and show broad support for a skatepark that will enhance our town recreation facilities. A dedicated Scituate Skatepark will provide a safe place for skateboarders to practice and ride, rather than on streets and sidewalks that are for drivers and pedestrians.  Your support is the first step in developing skatepark - please add your name below!
