STUDENTS LIVES MATTER

STUDENTS LIVES MATTER
The Issue
Recently, the Mauritian Prime Minister decided to prepone the release of school to the 1st July 2020 instead of the 01st August. However, students are not mentally prepared for this resumption.
We students have suffered for 3 months! We had online classes, unrealistic deadlines, more homework and notes than we usually get at school (simply because teachers think we have more 'free time').
Society normally asks "why are our kids are becoming drug addicts at such a young age", "why are students depressed" , "Why are grades falling drastically".
Well in reality: it's because of our messed up system!
The authorities truly do not look after us student’s mental health, saying "oh, what is this 'depression', this is just a petty phase that you are going through".
Well, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. We need rest, we need time to catch up, we aren’t robots. We have sleepless nights due to the work given today to be submitted tomorrow, that is we are sleep deprived. These deadlines leave us with barely no time for revision, when people expect so much from us from us ‘lazy' students.
They just consider the student life to be easy, but how can it be possible with all the struggles our generation is facing? From racism to many other social critiques.
We barely even have time to properly spend with family due to all the online classes, as we only go out of our rooms just for food or a toilet break. We are treated as machines. Not only do we have school work but we also have private tuition.
Even before lockdown, us students not only have to take in the frustration our parents give us after their tough day at work, we have to also take in the anger the teachers sometimes vent on us. This has to stop! #StudentsLivesMatter !
