Save Women's Health and Labor Services at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital

The Issue

My personal story starts in the heart of rural southwest Alabama, where Grove Hill Memorial Hospital (GHMH) stands as the solitary beacon of hope for women's health and labor services. From Selma to Mobile, Brewton to Waynesboro, MS, it is the only institution providing these vital services, serving not only the women in Clarke County, but also across the 5 neighboring counties.

GHMH labor and delivery services stand in jeopardy. The potential loss of these services would be devastating not only to the women of our community but the newborns who are our tomorrow. It would create an alarming void in healthcare services, forcing women to travel considerable distances to receive the care they need.

The United Nations cites that in 2019, approximately 810 women died from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth every day. Most of these deaths occurred in low-resource settings, which further underscores the critical need for local services like those being offered by GHMH (Source: World Health Organization).

While we may be a rural community, we demand no less than safe, accessible health and labor services for our women. Do not let the only institution offering this fundamental care be dismantled. Stand up for women's rights to health. Stand up for our newborns who deserve a safe entry into the world!

This petition not only aims to Save Women's Health and Labor Services at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital but also to keep the lifeline for the women in southwest rural Alabama alive. I urge you, sign this petition and make a difference. Protect our women and the future of our newborns.
