Save the Single Person's Council Tax Discount

The Issue

The government has recently failed to rule out scrapping the 25% Council Tax discount for single people, despite the Labour Party pledging at the last election not to raise Council Tax.

Scrapping the Single Person's discount would be unfair and regressive. It would have a significant detrimental impact on working people and pensioners alike who live alone and who already in many cases struggle with the cost of living, not having multiple incomes entering the household. Arguably the 25% discount is already too low, scrapping it would be appalling.

We the undersigned call on government not to scrap, or reduce, the Single Person's discount on Council Tax.
