The issue

Having spent decades working in both television and radio, I've witnessed the remarkable evolution of these entertainment mediums. Over the years, I've had the privilege of observing countless dedicated individuals who contributed to these fields, bringing stories to life and creating memories that became a part of our cultural heritage. These veterans have worked tirelessly to preserve the artefacts and heritage of our filmmaking and broadcasting history. However, it pains me to see these treasures at risk due to recent decisions by the Western Australian government.

The Pictures in Motion Museum of Film and Television in Perth, a sanctuary for our state's entertainment history, has been unjustly forced out of their long-standing home at the Sunset Heritage Precinct. Their situation has become even more precarious as their primary source of revenue was cut off when the heritage theatre they relied upon was sold. This museum is more than just a collection of artefacts; it is a tribute to the creativity and history of film and television in Western Australia.

The decision to uproot the Pictures in Motion Museum without a viable alternative location places our cultural history in peril. This museum not only celebrates the past but serves as an inspiration for future generations of artists and storytellers who can learn from the work and legacy of those who came before them.

A sustainable solution for the museum is critical. We call on the Western Australian government to provide a new, permanent home for the museum. This solution could involve allocating space in a public venue or repurposing an existing state-owned property that can accommodate the museum's needs. Furthermore, consistent funding and support could be established, allowing these dedicated custodians to focus on their important work without the fear of being displaced.

By signing this petition, you will be voicing your support for the preservation of our cultural heritage. Let us work together to ensure that the Pictures in Motion Museum remains a vital part of Western Australia's legacy, where the past is honored, and future generations are inspired.

Please sign this petition to urge the Western Australian government to take decisive action to save the Pictures in Motion Museum. Let us not lose this treasure trove of history, ingenuity, and artistic celebration.
