Save The Loggerheads Togther

The Issue

Loggerhead sea turtles are amazing animals that have lived in the oceans for millions of years but now they are in danger because of humans. Every year many turtles die because of things we do without thinking like leaving trash on the beach building too close to nesting areas or polluting the water. Plastic bags in the ocean can look like jellyfish which turtles eat but swallowing plastic can kill them. Lights from buildings near the shore can confuse baby turtles and make them go the wrong way instead of toward the ocean.

I remember walking on the beach once and seeing a tiny baby turtle struggling to make it to the water. A group of us had to block the lights from the street so it wouldn’t go the wrong way. It made me realize how even small actions from people can make a big difference in whether these turtles live or die.

If loggerhead sea turtles went extinct, it would hurt both the ocean and people. These turtles keep jellyfish populations under control, and without them, fish we depend on could be at risk. Their eggs help beach plants grow, and without them, our coasts could erode faster in storms. Sea turtle tourism also supports many communities, so losing them would mean lost jobs and money. We need to care more and protect their homes before it’s too late.

It is sad to think these animals are struggling to survive because of our actions. If loggerhead turtles disappeared it would hurt the ocean and people. They help control jellyfish so fish we rely on can survive. Their eggs help beach plants grow which keeps beaches from washing away during storms. Many coastal towns depend on sea turtle tourism so losing them would cost jobs and money. We need to care more and protect their homes before it is too late.

These turtles cannot speak for themselves, but we can. Every piece of trash picked up, every light turned off near the beach, and every voice raised for their protection brings them one step closer to survival. If we do nothing, future generations may only know loggerhead turtles from pictures in books. But if we act now, we can make sure they are still here, swimming free in the ocean where they belong.
