The electronic signs on Mt. Mee Road have changed from “Roadworks commencing early November” to “Survey Underway”. We like to think that this means the trees are not going anywhere anytime soon – but with no starting date updates from TMR (as usual), we can’t be sure.
We can confirm that fauna spotters did visit the site last week for observations. Our hope is that the information they collected may be used by TMR to change the plan.
We do not know what is happening now: is TMR attempting to get everything ticked off so they can continue with their original plan to remove the trees? Or are they reconsidering the plan and looking at alternatives?
TMR have acknowledged receipt of emails from our lawyers, but are yet to provide a response, let alone the information we've been requesting.
Our amazing community continues to supervise the site. Thank you tree sitters and guardians!
The petition to save the Lewington Road Eucalypt Trees now has 2,392 signatures.
On Friday, we received “Charges Estimate Notices” for the Right to Information requests (RTIs) that we submitted – including environmental reports, crash data, and information on the decision-making process of the Targeted Road Safety Program. The cost for these documents is over $2,000 – a large price to pay for our right to information! There are so many barriers to accessing information from the State Government – the lack of transparency is shocking. Even if we pay this cost, much of the information may be redacted.
Now we need to decide what to do next, and we’d love to hear your thoughts. $5k from our gofundme has been allocated to legal fees – so we’d need to fundraise more to pay for all the RTIs. Please chip in if you can, and head over to our Facebook page to share your suggestions, updates, or insights!
