Save the Lewington Road Eucalypt Trees on Mount Mee

Save the Lewington Road Eucalypt Trees on Mount Mee
The issue
Two mature Eucalypt trees on Mount Mee are due to be cut down by the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR).
Standing strong, adjacent to Lewington Road on Kabi Kabi country alongside Jinibara Country, the trees are habitat for koalas, gliders, native birds, and insects. Locals have observed the trees' hollow branch nesting sites being utilised by a range of birdlife, including native parrots. Habitat loss is a major threat to these species. The trees play a critical role in the local ecosystem, offer a range of benefits including reducing erosion, and add to the natural beauty of Mount Mee.
Local residents share concerns about the condition of Mount Mee Road, acknowledge that the road has seen tragic accidents, believe that the two trees have not been the cause of incidents, and are calling for road safety improvements that minimise environmental damage. Requests for safety and environmental reports from TMR and Minister for the Environment and Tourism and Minister for Science and Innovation, Andrew Powell, have so far been unsatisfactory.
With a history of logging and clearing on the mountain, trees of this age and size are rare in the area. They are cherished by many in the local community, who want to protect biodiversity and avoid further environmental destruction.
Please sign this petition to save the Lewington Road Eucalypt Trees, and demand that the Department of Transport and Main Roads does not cut them down. Take a stand against unnecessary environmental destruction, and help ensure that Mount Mee remains a sanctuary for both people and wildlife for generations to come.
