The trees are staying!

This week, TMR released this information:

Mount Mee Road safety improvements

Following further technical and environmental investigations, the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) has refined its approach to safety improvements on Mount Mee Road near Lewington Road to balance safety and environmental outcomes.

What we're doing

TMR will deliver a revised package of safety improvements that includes high-impact warning signage and enhanced curve alignment markers. This work will involve minor vegetation clearing to improve sight lines - with no mature trees removed.

This refined approach addresses key road safety requirements while protecting old-growth habitat identified during recent fauna investigations.

Keeping you informed

TMR will continue to keep residents, road users and stakeholders updated as the project progresses. Further information, including construction timeframes and any temporary traffic arrangements, will be provided closer to the start of works.

THANK YOU to all who signed this petition, donated to the Gofundme, sent letters, called politicians, showed up to tree-sit, camped at the site, delivered snacks, spread the word, talked to neighbours, trained others in non-violent direct action, bought coffees, provided community meeting spaces, shared stories, yarned with elders, contacted media, bird watched, gathered, made signs, photographed animals, dropped in, and stood up for our beautiful environment.

The trees will stay. They're stunning old gums, home to native wildlife, and now also a symbol of the community coming together to protect what we care about.

THANK YOU!
