SAVE the Kentucky Water Supply! STOP SB89!

The Issue

Senate Bill 89 is a recently passed Kentucky bill that decreases the use of permits for hazardous activities involving ephemeral and private bodies of water. Affecting more than 1.5 million people, this bill weakens the protection for streams, tributaries, and the Kentucky water supply. This bill can easily be utilized by mining companies to further increase the amount of heavy metal, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen oxide to be released along with degrading air quality. Heavy metals are one of the main forms of soil pollution and are toxic while sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide create acid rain which further degrades the water and environment. This bill limits the protection for Cedar and Crooked Creek, some tributaries of Harrods Creek, and private water sources. Your voice matters. Save the Kentucky water supply now!
