Save The Grub Hut – Support Our Local Burger Van in Bearsted

Save The Grub Hut – Support Our Local Burger Van in Bearsted

The Issue

To: Maidstone Borough Council

Subject: Grant street trading consent and allow The Grub Hut to continue operating at the site of The Yeoman Pub on Ashford Road, Bearsted.

Why This Matters

We, the undersigned, call on Maidstone Borough Council to support a valued local business — The Grub Hut, a small, independently run burger van operated by three hardworking women.

Despite serving the community responsibly and receiving strong support from local residents, The Grub Hut has been forced to close temporarily due to ongoing issues surrounding street trading consent. These obstacles appear to have stemmed from complaints made by an individual or competing business. As a result, all three women have already lost their income while waiting for approvals.

What The Grub Hut Means to Our Community

For many people in Bearsted and the surrounding area, The Grub Hut is more than just a food van. It is:

 • A friendly, reliable local business that brings life to the area

 • A safe and convenient place to grab freshly made food

 • A social point for workers, families, and locals

 • A small business run with pride, care, and passion

The support from the community has shown again and again how much this little business matters. The Grub Hut has followed every rule asked of them, and they are fully prepared to meet any further requirements the council needs. All they want is a fair opportunity to operate.

Our Request

We ask Maidstone Borough Council to:

 1. Approve street trading consent without further delays.

 2. Recognise the significant community support behind this business.

 3. Allow The Grub Hut to continue operating at its established location on the land of The Yeoman Pub.

Why We’re Signing

Small, honest local businesses deserve support — not endless barriers. The Grub Hut provides a service that local people value deeply. Closing it down would be a loss to the community and a devastating blow to the livelihoods of the three women who run it.

Please help us protect a much-loved small business and ensure that The Grub Hut can stay open and continue serving Bearsted.

Let’s stand together and show the council how important this local business is.
