The Ballari municipal corporation has decided to shift the dogs, pigs and cattle and has earmarked funds in the budget too! In 2012, the municipal corporation took similar steps, in which they decided killing the animals are much cheaper than shifting them, and hundreds of animals were killed, and severe steps were taken against the municipality for their act. In 2016, they have decided to shift the animals to remote areas! This step is no better than killing them! In remote areas, the animals die put of starvation or get hit by heavy vehicles or get mauled by wild animals! As per the Supreme Court Order, and as per the PCA Act 1960, relocating the dogs is illegal. The only legal and UN approved method to tackle the population of stray dogs is by effective ABC program. The municipality has always been hesitant to go about the ABC program, and the District SPCA is a dead body which needs to be reconstituted.
