Point Pelee National Park kills deer and cormorants as “hyperabundant”.  They claim the deer and cormorants damage the park by grazing and pooping, despite these being completely natural processes in ecosystem evolution.  Killing is euphemistically termed “reduction”.  The cormorants came back after a ban on DDT, and the deer are not hyperabundant.  But even if they were, killing will only bring in a backlash of more deer and cormorants.  Cormorants can be managed without killing.  There are also humane very effective contraceptives used for deer that can be used instead, with no rebound populations.  No killing ever has to occur in a park, which should be a sanctuary for wildlife.
