Save the Dalmeny Bowling Greens and Protect Our Club's Core Land
Save the Dalmeny Bowling Greens and Protect Our Club's Core Land
The issue
To the Board of Directors of the Narooma Sporting and Services Club (NSSC),
We, the undersigned members, bowlers, and residents of Dalmeny and the wider Eurobodalla community, call on the NSSC Board to immediately halt the proposed closure of the Dalmeny bowling greens. This property is officially classified as "Core Land" under the Registered Clubs Act.
By law, "Core Land" represents the essential, beating heart of a club—the very grounds required to serve its community. Most importantly, the law states that the Board cannot dispose of, lease, or sell this Core Land without a transparent, majority vote from the club’s members.
While the Board has stated that the club building itself will remain open, history proves that stripping a bowling club of its greens starves the venue of its members and vital revenue. We recognise this decision as a step that will inevitably lead to the total demise and eventual full closure of the entire Dalmeny Club.
Dalmeny is a rapidly growing area with hundreds of new homes on the horizon, and our local club is a vital social hub. Crucially, the club serves as a lifeline for our older and more vulnerable residents. Losing this accessible local venue will cut off their social connections, severely impacting their well-being and the social fabric of Dalmeny. Furthermore, the Dalmeny Club is a historical, hard-earned asset built for the benefit of our local community—it must be protected.
By signing this petition, we demand that the NSSC Board:
1. Protect, maintain, and keep open the Dalmeny bowling greens.
2. Commit to a long-term strategy that secures the future of the entire Dalmeny Club building and facilities.
3. Engage in transparent, open community consultation with Dalmeny members before any asset or green closures are progressed.
