Save the Bude to Exeter bus

The Issue

Stagecoach has made the decision to dramatically alter its 6 and 6A bus service from Bude to Exeter.

Stagecoach have decided that they will no longer run a direct service from Bude to Exeter. I understand that it is not commercially viable for them to run it since the reopening of the train line to Okehampton.

While it is fantastic that this rail link has reopened, it has unfortunately further isolated Bude. Anyone wishing to travel to Exeter from Bude will now either have to change buses at Okehampton, resulting in an even longer journey as the bus from Okehampton to Exeter is going the slow way following the old A30, or getting on the train, which is very expensive and will more than double the cost of getting to Exeter.

Sign this petition to ask Cornwall Council to help find a solution to this problem before the change on October 30th. Some possible solutions are:

Either allow people who have purchased bus passes, to use them on the train to Exeter, without having to purchase separate train tickets.

Or Cornwall Council subsidises  the number 6 bus route to still allow people in Bude to travel easily to Exeter.

A lot of money has been spent reopening the line to Okehampton, which is great, but could a little more be spent on retaining a better connection for Bude residents?

From October 30th, due to the high cost of the train from Okehampton to Exeter, or with the added journey time changing buses, it will be far easier and more cost efficient to drive to Exeter from Bude. Cornwall Council should be encouraging people to take public transport, not removing vital services. Since the services that connect Bude are getting worse, less people will use them, and the less people that use them, the more they will disappear. Then we will be left with no services at all.
