Save St Peter’s for the Walsden Community

Save St Peter’s for the Walsden Community
The Issue
St Peter's in Walsden is not just a building made of bricks and mortar; it is a building cherished and loved by many. For generations, it has been a place where we gather—be it for playgroups, school events, or momentous life events such as weddings, baptisms, and funerals. This iconic structure has witnessed the ebb and flow of our lives and carries countless memories within its walls.
Sadly, the fate of St Peter's hangs in the balance. The building has been closed since July 2024 due to safety concerns. We must act swiftly to ensure it remains with the community, and is not demolished or given over to developers. We also have a huge opportunity to reimagine the space and expand it as a community venue for generations to come.
We have a huge fundraising job in front of us - the estimated cost of restoration is £680,000. We've started a fundraiser, but community support is absolutely vital if we want to apply for grants to save this beautiful building. You can access the fundraiser here https://gofund.me/2aa59f966
We propose that local authorities, in partnership with heritage and community funds, explore financial solutions to restore and maintain the church. This investment is crucial not only for the preservation of an architectural heritage but also for maintaining a space that holds deep-rooted significance for the entire population of Walsden.
By signing this petition, we are not just saving a building, but are championing our community's future and honouring our past. Together, let’s urge local authorities to take action and secure the future of St Peter’s for us and the generations to come. Please lend your voice to our cause and sign this petition.
