The issue

The Logan Demand Responsive Transport (DRT) service is vital for the residents of Logan Reserve, Queensland. It provides essential mobility solutions for individuals without private transportation or those who prefer convenient public alternatives.

The planned introduction of a 1-hour journey time from pick-up to drop-off for local journeys through the new DRT provider, Transit Care,  threatens to severely impact the efficiency and reliability of this service.

The current punctuality of the DRT, as provided by a 30-minute window from the scheduled pickup time, ensures that residents can depend on timely pick-ups and arrivals, which is crucial for attending work, school, medical appointments, and other important commitments.

Altering the current schedule by extending the journey time imposes an unnecessary burden on users, discouraging the use of public transportation in favour of less sustainable options like increased car traffic and parking.

Statistics show that timely and efficient public transport systems significantly contribute to reduced traffic congestion and lower emissions in urban areas. By maintaining the current scheduling and eliminating any extended waiting periods, the Logan DRT service will continue to support environmental sustainability and community accessibility.

Furthermore, this change might disproportionately affect those with strict schedules, including city commuters, shift workers, parents with school-aged children, and other individuals who depend on reliable transport. Delays could mean missed appointments and increased stress for these groups, undermining their daily planning and quality of life.

The Logan City Council must prioritize the needs and requirements of its constituents by maintaining the existing efficiency and frequency of the Logan DRT service. Let's urge the council to reconsider this planned change to maintain our community's access to reliable and efficient public transport.

Please sign this petition to keep the Logan DRT service running efficiently and without delay, ensuring sustainable and accessible transportation for all in Logan Reserve.
