Why this petition matters

Started by Claire Selvidge

Roundhill Academy School in Thurmaston, Leicester is one of only 14 pools in the county that are available for public use. The Chief Executice of the Bradgate Trust, which Roundhill is part of has announced that this pool is being closed on the 14th April due to annual  costs falling short by just £5000 a year. The intention to replace it with hardstanding and a covered shelter.

Despite approaches by the local council to support the funding of the pool, the closure is set to go ahead. Local groups have also pledged financial support to enable to pool to remain open but these have been rejected.

The pool is used extensively by the local community. It is home to 5 swim schools, and has in excess of 500 children who attend lessons at the facility. It also has a hoist for disabled access.

Locally, lessons at alternate pools are oversubscribed, with waiting lists running into hundreds of places or closed to new applicants completely.  The negative impact on the local community will be massive, with the children who currently attend lessons here having little alternative.

The Bradgate Trust , which Roundhill Academy are part of have power to stop this, and to continue to provide this facility to the community.

We want to stop the closure of the pool. Please support us by signing this petition.
