The Issue

I am one of many members of the Oxford community for whom the news of the planned closing of our beloved Vue cinema to make way for a redevelopment project came like a heavy blow. The Vue cinema and our local bowling alleys are more than just places of entertainment - they are significant parts of our shared cultural and social life. This closing will wipe away an integral part of our community's vibrancy and vitality.

The new development is focused on the construction of new labs and offices. While we recognize and appreciate the potential benefits that these new facilities might bring to our city, we believe this cannot justify the erasure of our popular leisure amenities. We lean on these sites, not only for their entertainment value, but also as gathering places that contribute to Oxford's communal fabric.

The Vue cinema and the bowling alleys are visited by thousands every year, playing a significant role in our local economy as well as supporting a wide range of jobs. These venues serve as a source of relaxation and fun for many - from families spending quality time together, to youngsters enjoying their first taste of independence, to the elderly finding companionship in shared hobbies.

In view of this, we urge the relevant companies to reconsider their plans for closing and their redevelopment project should not disrupt critical community spaces. As regular patrons, we believe it is of utmost importance to preserve these valuable community resources.

Let secure the future of our beloved Vue cinema, bowling alleys and Ozone facilities. Please sign the petition today.
