What’s Happening Now
At the Planning Commission meeting on 10/7/25, they passed the Safety Element, an AMENDMENT to our General Plan.
It now moves to City Council 10/28/25 for final approval
The video is available on the City’s website — these items begin at 2:08.
Concerns Ignored
During the meeting, Commissioner (not residents — because the majority have no idea this is happening) raised serious concerns:
- New fire maps and evacuation plans could cause bottlenecks between two fire zones.
- An amendment to the Vision Plan (moving portion of units to another area, question) as a solution was asked.
- When staff was asked could they seek modifications, push back, or exemptions from SB79, they had no answers.
- Did commisson mention the recent Altadena foothill fires or Pacific Palisades evacuations that exposed these exact risks? YES.
Was this process paused to reassess? NO.
About SB79
- SB79 is widely known to be under review to be challenged statewide.
- SB79 doesn’t even take effect until June 2026 — and may never fully make it that far.
- State mandates have exemptions for areas in high fire zones or with unique evacuation risks.
So why is our City rushing ahead without listening to us and without any imminent deadline forcing them to act?
TIME TO BE LOUD — AGAIN!
City Council Members are elected to represent their constituents, NOT the State, City Staff, or themselves.
Every one of them should be:
- Voting NO on this amendment
- Demanding notifications and transparency,
- Seeking possible exemptions, this is a serious safety risk.
- Actively pushing back against high-rise developments.
SHOW UP & SPEAK OUT
The City appears to be moving forward as if nothing has changed — as if residents’ voices at the Community Conversation didn’t matter, they blamed everything on the state, and felt that was the end of this.
NO — absolutely NOT.
Let’s show up, be loud, and make it clear that we will not be ignored.
Our City matters. Until our representatives make notification changes and truly represent us, we’ll have to do it ourselves.
See you at the Council meeting — Tuesday, October 28, 2025
Commission questioned how would outreach be done?
City Staff response: On the website and social media — the same failed outreach policy we’ve been fighting against for months.
This project has been underway for THREE YEARS.
We’ve made our wishes clear: we want TRANSPARENCY and INCLUSION on major changes that impact our city.
We asked for NOTIFICATIONS!
- Is this easy and cost-effective to do? YES.
- Is this something neighboring cities have done successfully for years? YES.
- Did we bring this up at every recent meeting and the “Community Conversation”? YES.
- Have they made any changes? NO!
Where are the notifications on our water bills that we specifically asked for?
Nowhere.
